Ear candling is an all-natural process used to soothe the ears and to help relieve pain and itching from infections and other conditions. This process helps soften old, hardened earwax and assists the body to excrete excess earwax. It is also beneficial for swimmer’s ears and plugged ears.
Ear candling requires the use of ear candles designed to collect wax and other debris out of the ear and into the hollow candle. The candles are made of cotton or linen that’s wound into a cone shape, soaked in wax, and then allowed to harden.
An ear candling session can last from 15 minutes to 45 minutes. A series of one or two ear candles may be burned for each ear. During a session a hollow candle is placed on the external ear canal. The candle is then lit at the opposite end. The flame is cut back occasionally with scissors and extinguished between two and four inches from the client. The client lays on one side with the treated ear uppermost and the candle vertical. Light pressure point massage with use of essential oils on the sinus area ensures the smoke from burning waxed candle aids to get rid of extra moisture that causes sinus and allergy problems in some cases.
